small pottery lidded dish

I have an earthenware lidded container (around 3.5cm high and 7cm in diameter)with hand-painted decoration in blue under-glaze, including what I think is a phoenix on the lid. I do not recognize the mark on the base, and not even sure whether it is in fact Chinese.
Can anyone tell me anything about it please? It's origin, use, age etc? Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you! Regards, Simon
