small covered jar

Hi Peter. I also have this little and beautiful covered jar. I am wondering how old it might be. I am thinking around 100 years old but that is just my guess. I look forward to your replies.. Thanks
Ryan

small jar

Hi Ryan,
I doubt that this is a lotus. The Chinese has a name for this kind of decoration, but I cannot tell what it means, exactly. Lotus are usually easily recognizable due to their characteristic petals.

In Qing dynasty porcelain an inside radius is mostly found on Dehua porcelain. But the blue color does not show the 'worm traces' peculiar to Dehua. That has me thinking if it could be made elsewhere, or if it is just some exception?!

Yes, the bottom has no inner angle to it heading in towards the center. It is smooth and rounded.

I was wondering if the flower might be a lotus or something different and perhaps it was made specifically for the SE Asian market?

I also thought that the leaf scrolling resembled a late Qing pattern and i thought it was the same age. Anyways.. could you tell me what the rounded inner bottom rim means?

With much gratitude!

lidded jar

Hi Ryan,
I have some doubts about the whirl-shaped decoration. This looks somewhat non-Chinese. One question, in the picture of the bottom it seems that the place where the inner side of the foot rim is connected to the bottom is round (has a radius). Does it have one actually?
Overall the item seems to have age, I just cannot say that I recognize it as typical, although the decoration resembles somewhat a certain decoration popular in the Guangxu reign. It is just those whirls I'm not sure about.
