Hi Tim,
to answer your, how when where interest...I purchased the bowls in Australia with money about a month ago. There was no other information provided about the bowls, apart from the price tags.
I don't see how this can really be of help to you in your pending assessment,but if you have any knowledge or opinion about the bowls, please share it with the Forum, so others may learn a little more from a contribution, as Peter is the only one that seems to help us amateur collectors & further discussion & support would be appreciated & should be encouraged.

I mean the clay is too red, too dark. The red one I know is lighter.
I think I mentioned "fakes" only in relation with matters belonging to the analysis?

Simply said, I don't know what you have. The bowl is unlike anything I know about Tang Sancai. But that is not much, so I'm in no position to judge if any of these bowls could be from there.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by "doubts"of the underside?
I have seen images of Tang bases finished with a scooped out foot, similar to these, but more neater & obviously from a lighter clay body.
Some elaboration of the red clay body...underside would help me understand what you are actually inferring.
The age seems to be there on the glazes, but if you think these could be fakes...then fakes of what exactly?
I thought Tang style Sancai made in the middle east could be possible as the red clay is even used today....but I can't seem to pinpoint origin of this style.
Liao sancai that I looked at on net, seem all to be made of a lighter harder paste, not red.

Hey, Andrew,

Before I make further assessment of your bowls, can you as well as everybody who will be posting inquiries in the future, provide some background as to how, where and when you obtained the objects? Also, how long have you had them, and what were you told about them at time of purchase?
A little information will go a long way in aiding the assessment of the objects at hand.

I have doubts about the underside of the bowls. They don't look as those I have seen. Further, I have also doubts about the decoration of the first bowl. As far as I know there were no patterns painted on Tang Sancai wares. With that I mean the Tang Sancai wares were colored in a simple fashion, but not really decorated.

Have you looked at Liao Sancai wares? They could be different.
