Please Help ID this small plate

I found this tiny 4" plate and what stuck me was that it was marked on the front of it as I'm used to pottery marks on the bottom of the pieces.

It took me a while to figure out it is a two birds ( quails as it is starting to fade It is trimmed in sliver with three makers marks on it.

Not know a thing about Asian pottery, I'm guessing mid 20th century or a bit earlier.

Any info would be appreciate even if it just to guide me in the right direction

Thank you

Small dish

Sorry for the typos...I hate typing on an iPad. The rim is painted silver OVER the glaze and is worn in some spots as are some of the brush strokes making up the the thin branches of the red flowers. The image of the two quails and flowers are also over the glaze and is worn some spots, too. The image seem like it was lightly etched into the dish as when I lightly rub my finger over the area I can feel the slight indent of the etching. The image is simple and primitive.

The dish itself has natural flaws that happened probably during firing . Tiny bubbles.but no cracks or crazing. the dish is octagon shaped and silver looks hand painted. The dish is imperfect enough, not something you would see come out of a factory .
I would love to wash it but am afraid the image and characters might be further damaged
Thank you again for your help. Perhaps a board member might help us, too

May I send you a few more pictures that are better details?

Hi, I don't think I could tell you more based on that. I don't know that much about Japanese porcelain. Chinese porcelain doesn't usually have a signature or seal near the rim. It seems that it is old. Is the black rim metal? Or it it rough? Looks like if there is or were a metal rim at one time.

Ho Peter, When you say you cant read the marks is that as you couldnt see them well enough or you dont know the characters?
Im sorry I didnt send you better pictures in natural light as you could the green glazes are not an afterthought to cover anything..no repairs. just small bubbles in the ceramic itself. The only thing that was added after the firing was the silver which is fading off on spots
Thank you for your help..perhaps another member might recognize it.
I'm not looking to find out anything more then its "story" if it might have one
Thank you Peter

Hi, I cannot read the second character and the mark in these pictures. But the plate is likely Japanese, judging from shape, decoration, etc..
Is the dark area area to the left fired or not? It could have been added to conceal a repair. While some ceramics do have such dark areas, in this specific case it looks unnatural, as if it were not part of the original decoration.

I wanted to add

The piece has little natural flaws in it..tiny dings that look like pin pricks in the glaze.
My daughter said it doesn't look like Chinese or Japanese characters, but possibly Southest Asia
