Old Chinese Bronze Vase Elaborate Seal Need Identification

by Natasha C.
(Vermont, USA)

I recently acquired this incredible vase in an online auction. I thought it would make a nice decorative item. They did not provide very many pics but, the price was more than right. Nonetheless, when I received it-I was a bit stunned by it's weight (15lbs). Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the Dragons were not applied-they are solid and part of the actual vase. The vase appear fairly old and incredibly detailed. The raised figural seal is something I have not come across before.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance regarding the interpretation of the seal and any other information you might be able to provide.

Thank you,
Natasha

Hi, I can't help about the seal, but I'd like to know how much was the vase. We have the same thing and we are planning to sell it in our own garage sale. I never did any selling in the internet afterall. Ours has a broken dragon's ear (or back horn). It is from my mother's side and she believes they have it before she was born (mid 1940's). Thanks.

5 claw dragon vase

I own one very similar to this with different motiffs and the claws extant from the vase. They were produced as temple vases up until the 1930s and are hard to get with all claws intact. You need to find someone learned in brass ware production to find age. If it of any help I was informed that mine is around the 1890s to 1910.

Not specialized in metal items...

The mark is a "Da Ming Xuande Nianzhi" mark, which has been used since the Ming dynasty (until today).
In my view the vase is a more recent product.
