Dear Peter, I need your help on this item, someone will sell his collections for the price of US$1,500, is it worth it, plate's diameter is 41 CM, very heavy and looks nice, he has a lot of collection to sell, but I'm not sure if that's real antique or fake, thanks for your help Peter

Dragon
by: tom

Hi Peter, again, thanks for your advice, I wouldn't buy this item for $1,500, too "risky"... But if you haven't seen longquan celadon with dragon decoration, actually you can find it at Shanghai Museum, they have collection of such a thing that belongs to Yuan dynasty, it looks almost similar to a picture I submitted above...( I found it on Wikipedia)

Celadon plate
by: peter

Hi, personally I would avoid buying this. There are several points of doubt.
First, the bottom does not look natural to me. There is no need to have the glaze of such a wide area removed when the ring an item is placed on for firing is so narrow. The glaze is to shiny, and the ribs on the underside to high. I don't think I have seen a dragon decoration on a Longquan plate. When in doubt, it is always better to play safe and not to purchase. There is always another opportunity coming.
I have seen a number of Longquan items and own some, but they do not look the same, especially at the bottom.
