Ming Jar

by rob gerritsen

Dear all,
I just bought a jar, probably a gingerjar however smaller than the once I ussualy find them from the 19th century. The colour of the glaze is a striking soft turquoise blue in stead of the celadon colour.

I shape it looks like a ming jar. Can anybody inform me about this gingerjar. So where it has its origin, when it was made and why ofcourse.

Thanks in advance,

Best regards,

Rob

This type of item comes up now and then, but I cannot tell you for sure where or from when it is.
It does not appear standard decorations in any of my books.
There are some peculiar points. The neck is glazed, but the glaze was removed from the shoulder. If it would be Ming, then all would be glazed. In the Qing dynasty both shoulder and neck would have had the glaze removed.
The decoration is overly simple and does not seem to depict anything specific.
The bottom looks old, though. In my view this is either from some non-mainstream Chinese kiln, or it could perhaps be Vietnamese.
