LAST QUESTION CONCERNING COLOUR ON FANGGE

by Andrew

Thanks again Peter for your informative comments.

I would like to ask you, could you be able to tell me whether the orange staining around the peripheries of the opaque glaze was intentionally created? or are they actually the opaque grey glaze, burnt to this colour change, because the grey glaze was thinner in those areas?

Where it is visible, the orange has saturated into the surrounding grey glaze.

A last occurring thought...a loop examination of the opaque grey glaze revealed some cloudy, swirl type patterns within the crystals of the glaze...this texture coupled with the orange highlights, reminds me of some Ming jadeite pieces I saw online, which looked similar with both colours...the jadeite being described as "pale celadon colour with russet crust adhering...also remember seeing a carved piece of jadeite simulating fried mutton fat, again pale opaque white with same burnt orange skin.

kindly yours,
Andrew.

red color

I do not know what this is, Andrew.
Usually, if this color is directly on the unglazed part, it is from firing. But normally it isn't on the glaze but on the unglazed clay along the edge of the glaze. It is caused by iron (iron oxide) content along the rim of the glaze.
