Hi Peter, I could not find anything of the likeness to this piece Vietnamese, but I did find similar pieces that were Chinese, Ming period, thanks, Stan.
Yes, Stan, I was thinking along this line, but I wanted to verify it by finding pictures. Sorry for having not had the time yet...
BTW, sometimes Ming dynasty items of Vietnamese and Chinese origin are surprisingly similar. This is probably because at one time Vietnam was part of the Chinese empire. It is assumed that during the Ming sea prohibition (or ban) many Chinese working in kilns emigrated to Southeast Asia, where the exports were not affected by the ban. Sometimes, when items look very similar, we discover that they are actually from Vietnam which was a major producer at the time.
