I have read through that section and I guess what I am more getting at is the fact that it is scratched for lack of a better word on the face of the plate where as on the underside there is the painted blue mark with also the painted circles. would you have any clue as to why this would be and from who or what. could it be like a lunchbox of today where a name is put on it so we know who it belongs to? .............................. Yes. And it is not scratched. Actually, the small holes forming the lines were punched into the glaze with a sharp tool. P.

Thanks for that. Have you any idea what the inscribed character on the face of the plate may be??

Could be a Dehua kiln plate. Bottom and foot rim look old, but the painted decoration on top appears relatively fresh. The design is somewhat off the regular for this pattern, but is probably still okay.
