Ginger Jar Info Please

Hi there, I bought a ginger jar /teapot(?) and would like to know it's age, value and purpose. It looks like a ginger jar but has a detachable brass spout and a removable lid with a long odd thing attached which goes inside the jar. The lid is held in place by a very thin pin which is attached to the metalwork at the top of the jar. There is a thin brass handle, and strips of metal down the sides and round the bottom, holding the top in place. Was it used for tea or some liquid?
