china but what the story

hope these pictures help, when looking at the design there seems to be a story being told ie the sad face of the soldier up on the hill and the female on horse back being escorted... maybe someone knows the answers to this design

can any one help identyfy this vase, it was given to my mum by a traveller called wally some 45 years ago. would like to know its age and weather its as old as it looks it stands about 11 inches high and a girth of 15 inches around where the lion dragons are, it apears to be hand painted. the markings underneath are around an inch square (rectangle)
