I have now found about a little bit more about the vase but not a lot I´m afraid. The vase is apparently 18th century, and in very good condition. It is a possibility that it´s a fake but still from the time. I am just amazed that it was a lot older than a hundred years. In an auction they would maybe start at 600-700 euros. Well-I hope that I will somehow find out more, where it was made etc but that seems like an impossibility. I will keep you posted if I´ll find out more and of the destiny of the vase! Thanks again! Regards Maria

Maria, Actually, I wanted you give you a few web addresses, but then you already told me you requested an appraisal. This site is comparatively young site, less than a year old, so there aren't many marks yet. We can't just go and copy seals from the web. Marks: There is gotheborg.com (in Sweden), probably one of the largest sites related to Chinese porcelain on the web. They got a large number of marks, but many are Japanese or newer Chinese marks. Generally said that site's marks are more related to export porcelain.
And here, http://www.teadust.com, a dealer. This is actually the largest collection of antique Chinese marks I know. They have lots of marks that are from high-end or imperial wares, it seems. But, please be aware that the marks of all these sites combined are only a small portion of all in existence. There must be thousands.

I will keep you posted when I hear from the auction house, it will be a few weeks though because in mid April there´s an expert on china from England coming over to look at chinese antiques. They wanted to keep the vase since they couldn´t tell me more at the moment. It´s all very exciting. Best regards Maria

Thanks again!
I will for sure let you know but it will wait for a few weeks, in mid april an expert on chinese antiques are coming over from England to see other chinese things before an auction and as they couldn´t say for sure either they wanted to keep it. It´s all very exciting. We are also waiting for an appraisal for a fine piece of qing soapstone seal - can you recommend a website like yours on seals? Thanks a lot for your help regarding the vase, ragards Maria

I would take good care of it. As I said, I don't understand much of this type of ceramics, but if it was bought in the fifties the current flood of Chinese faking would not have had to be taken into consideration. If it was old then already, it could well be a hundred years.
Could you let me know what the auction house did say, when you get an answer from them, please? I am always eager to learn new things. One word though, if they say it is old, do not sell it to them right away. Get a second appraisal first to avoid it being undervalued. And, many appraisers know European porcelain, but it is an altogether different matter when it comes to Chinese ceramics.
