Dear Peter, please could you help with this tea bowls. On your gallery I saw the same one, or I'm wrong. Thank you very much.

I have a feeling that the bowls are recent but the feeling of a beginner like me doesn't count. However I have seen imperial Qian pieces in Musée Guimet that are in such pristine condition that they look new!

printed or not
by: peter

I have been looking for that, Irina, but I cannot see any indication that it is printed; not in these images. Is the place you think could be printed not shown in the images?
I want to emphasize that the foot rim DOES look fine, and the overlying brush strokes don't resemble printing. Any further pictures?

You can check for printing with a good magnifier. The typical brush strokes are generally recognizable, because the color will appear deeper where a brush stroke starts and thinner at the end. With transfer printing the color has likely an uniform depth and looks flat.

Thank you, Peter. On close examination I think one bowl has a print pattern.

Hi Shelley,
I know what you mean. I have been considering that too; that is why I said that these bowls are 'usually' from the late Qing dynasty.
No brown dots and a spotless bottom...but the foot rim seems to be right. Based on these pictures I cannot be 100% sure if they are from the late Qing dynasty, but I haven't seen any copies either.
Sometimes items look new even if they are not. I would need to handle one to make 100% sure, One thing is sure, if the bowls are antique, they must be from the early 20th century (late Guangxu reign)...
